Although it was founded in the United States, the current head office is located in Japan, so it is considered as a Japanese company. They are operating in approximately 30 countries around the world, and overseas sales account for 60% of the total. In addition, the percentage of foreign investors exceeds 30%. In 1988, Steve Chang from Taiwan founded「Trend Micro Incorporated」 in LA, USA. In 1989, they decided to move their head office to Japan. From April 1991, this company started developing and selling the "Virus Buster" series. And on December 9, 1996, they entered into a capital tie-up with「Softbank Corporation」.

The main product of「Trend Micro」is "Virus Buster series", a comprehensive security software. This "Virus Buster" is  the Internet security software originally developed by「Trend Micro」. In oversea market, it was released under the name of "Trend Micro Internet Security" or "PC-cillin Internet Security".

At the beginning of its release, it was just a virus vaccine software. But now it become a comprehensive Internet security software that prevents spyware, phishing scams and personal information leakage. It is always in the top sales ranking in Japan. The sales form is mainly package and download sales. In the case of household products after the "2007" version, it can be installed up to three PCs, smartphones and tablet terminals with one serial number.
