April 1, 2010, a business integration between「Aioi Insurance(あいおい損害保険)」,「Nissay Dowa General Insurance(ニッセイ同和損害保険)」and「Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group Holdings(三井住友海上グループホールディングス)」was conducted and current「MS&AD Insurance Group」was established. As of now, this insurance holding company  is owns 191 subsidiaries and 31 affiliates.

Its core subsidiary,「Aioi Insurance」has a strong advantage in community-based sales because it was originally formed by the merger of many small and medium-sized life insurance companies. In particular, they carry out "Local contact-type" non-life insurance business for local small and medium-sized enterprise employers in Japan domestic. This is a definitely different point from「Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd.,」which is aggressive in expanding overseas. 

「Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd.,」, on the other hands, has strengths in the Southeast Asian market. As a result of their efforts to expand overseas market since 2004, they became the only non-life insurance company that is currently carrying out direct insurance business in 10 ASEAN countries. Also, in 2017,「Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance」succeeded in purchasing「First Capital」, a non-life insurance company in Singapore. By this merger, they acheieved the largest total benefit of insurance premiums in the ASEAN area.

In the UK and European markets, they are collaborating with overseas affiliates such as「MS Amlin plc」. In October 2013,「MS&AD Insurance Group」carried out adjustment and reorganization within the subsidiaries, and in particular, they enhanced cooperative relationship with「Toyota Motor Corporation(トヨタ自動車)」and「Nippon Life Insurance Company(日本生命保険)」.
