On April 2, 2001, the「Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group(三菱東京ファイナンシャルグループ)」was formed by the transfer of shares from the three companies,「Tokyo-Mitsubishi Bank(東京三菱銀行)」,「Mitsubishi Trust Bank(三菱信託銀行)」and「Nippon Trust Bank(日本信託銀行)」. On the other hand,「UFJ Bank Limited(UFJ銀行)」was formed in 2002 by the merger of「The Sanwa Bank(三和銀行)」and「Tokai Bank(東海銀行)」. Eventually, on October 1, 2005, 「Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group」merged with「UFJ Bank」and changed its name to the current「Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group」. 

Currently,「Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group」conducts various financial businesses through its subsidiaries. 「Mitsubishi UFJ Bank」is a traditional bank-related business,「Mitsubishi UFJ Trust Bank」is a trust-related business,「Mitsubishi UFJ Securities Holdings」conducts securities related business,「Mitsubishi UFJ Leasing」deals with leasing related business, and「Mitsubishi UFJ Capital」uses consumer finance business and venture capital.

Its core company,「Mitsubishi UFJ Bank」has relationship with most companies of Mitsubishi Group. In addition they have strong international network from「Tokyo Bank」period. This bank group has approximately 100,000 or more employees in 265 affiliated companies and subsidiaries.
