2. Summary and Features

 
「Ishida Kyokuzan Printing Works(石田旭山印刷所)」, a lithographic printing company established in Kyoto in 1868 by Ishida Saijiro(石田才次郎). Then, after the era of copper plate printing and lithographic printing, they established the glass screen manufacturing research department with the aim of domestically producing "screen for photoengraving", which is essential for photographic image printing. After they established related patents and manufacturing technology, in 1937, they finally launched independent company for this development,「Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd.(大日本スクリーン製造所)」which is a direct predecessor of「SCREEN」. 

As a result of the above effort, they were able to grow into a comprehensive manufacturer of plate making equipment with the highest technological level in the world. Then, by applying related technologies, they entered the field of electronic industry parts such as shadow masks for color TVs and metal mesh. In other words, they succeed in business diversification of manufacturing equipment business to the electronic industry, such as semiconductor manufacturing equipment and liquid manufacturing equipment. And currently these section  accounts for about 75% of total sales. 

On the contrary, the printing industry, which was the original business from its establishment of「SCREEN」no longer exists. Due to the advent of desktop PCs from the late 1980s to the 1990s, it's market was reduced to a quater. In the 2000s, the shadow mask business for CRT was literally evaporated, because it was by LCD completely now.

According to the above events,「SCREEN」became an industrial equipment manufacturer. But in the printing- field, there are still some legacies. they developed various high-end character fonts such as "Hiragino". In particular, this "Hiragino" is often used as an original font for many TV programs, books and magazines. Even「Apple」adopted this  for basic font used in "macOS" and "iPhone".

■ Semiconductor manufacturing equipment business
They handle equipment related to the cleaning process, which accounts for about 30% in the semiconductor manufacturing process, and they have the top share in the world. This company also comprehensively handles equipment for semiconductor front-end processes.

■ Printed circuit board related equipment business and graphic art equipment business
They manufacture printing equipment and PCB manufacturing equipment that make use of image processing technology, which is the core technology of「SCREEN」. 

■ Display manufacturing equipment
They handle display-related equipment required for smartphones and tablets.

■ ICT solution related business
